"If your project requires a superior balustrade then specify the quality delivered by AMIA." Powdercoated aluminium balustrading by Advance shall be 1000mm high minimum on all balconies and landings. On raking stairs, the height shall be 865mm minimum measured vertically from the toe of the tread. Balustrading configuration and design shall comply with clause D2.16 Amendment 5 of The Building Code of Australia. The strength of the balustrades to comply with AS1170, i.e. for buildings of single domestic occupancy - 0.6kN point load or 0.4kN/m load whichever is the greater. For balustrades in public locations, they shall be designed to 0.75N/m loading. For balustrades with glass infil panels, the balustrade shall be designed to comply with the greater of the 2 load requirements of either AS1170-1989 Part 1, Dead and Live Loads, or AS1170 Part 2, Wind Loads. Glass shall be performed in accordance with AS1286_1989 Glass in Buildings, Selection and Installation. Powdercoating shall be performed in accordance with AS3715-1989 Metal Finishing - Thermoset Powdercoatings For Architectural Applications. All materials shall be pre-treated with a mild alkaline etching process, de-ionised water rinse and a chromatic chemical conversion coating applied and further 2 rinse processes. Apply powdercoating to visually exposed surfaces by electrostatic spray process to provide a uniform minimum coating thickness of 50 microns in color and sheen selected. Stove at a temperature recommended by the powder manufacturer for a period of not less than 10 minutes. When a coated test piece is tested for adhesion by the cross-hatched method, there shall be no detachment from the substance, other than debris from the cutting operation. Fastenings, including anchors, lugs, screws rivets and the like, shall be capable of transmitting loads and stresses imposed. Fastenings to aluminium shall be aluminium of non-magnetic stainless steel, unless otherwise specified. Balustrades shall be fabricated in the longest possible lengths to reduce site joins or as recommended by the AMIA. Where possible all fastenings are to be concealed. Vertical members in balustrades shall be fixed and shall not rattle. Provision for expansion and contraction should be considered where structural movements are likely to occur. Do not allow such movements to transfer the load onto the finished metalwork. Weekly Monitoring of chemicals are logged, and samples of metals sent away for chemical test, adhesion, neutralslat spray.
